Stop! Don’t Buy Crypto Yet: The «Guerrilla» Guide to Learning for Free (Part 3) — Your First Real Practice in 30 Minutes

If you followed Parts 1 and 2, you know knowledge is your best shield and you don’t need to risk your savings to start. Today, we get hands-on. Let’s move from «reading about crypto» to «operating in crypto» without spending a cent.

This is your 30-minute training routine on a Testnet (test network). It’s the flight simulator before piloting the real plane.

1-5 minutes: The hangar (Wallet setup)
Don’t use your bank account. Download a software wallet like MetaMask (browser extension) or Electrum (for Bitcoin).
* Golden rule: Create a new account. Write down the 12 or 24 seed words on paper. No screenshots, no phone storage. This is your first real security exercise.

6-10 minutes: The faucet (Get free coins)
Search Google for «Sepolia Faucet» (Ethereum) or «Bitcoin Testnet Faucet». These faucets give free test coins that have no value but work exactly like real ones.
* Copy your wallet address (starts with 0x… for Ethereum).
* Paste it in the faucet and request coins.
* Lesson: Learn to wait for the network to process your request. Patience is a technical skill here.

11-20 minutes: First flight (Send and receive)
Once you see the balance in your wallet (magic!), let’s move it.
* Create a second account in your wallet.
* Send a small amount from one account to another.
* Notice the «Gas»: the network charges a small fee. On testnets, it’s free, but you’ll understand why real transactions cost.

21-25 minutes: The radar (Block explorer)
Copy your transaction code (TXID) and look it up on explorers like Etherscan (Sepolia) or Blockchair.
* See the confirmations. Multiple confirmations mean the transaction is final.
* Learn to read data: sender, receiver, amount, and network cost. Transparency becomes real.

26-30 minutes: Disaster drill (Restoration)
This step is often skipped and causes losses.
* Delete your wallet extension or app.
* Recover it using the seed words you wrote down.
* If you recover your balance, you’ve passed the test. Your money isn’t on the computer, it’s in those words. Lose the paper, lose the money. Someone sees the paper, steals the money.

Conclusion: You’re no longer a novice
In 30 minutes, you’ve done more than 90% of people who impulsively buy crypto. You’ve installed, received, sent, tracked, and restored — all risk-free.

This is the guerrilla mindset: train hard so the real fight is easy.

If you found this useful, please tip to keep the series alive. In Part 4, we’ll cover the 3 most common scams and how to avoid them.
